Short description

The project deals with changing the existing teaching material at MCAST (Malta College for Art, Science and Technology) to the newer material using embedded learning techniques or UDL (Universal Design for Learning).

The school has numerous vocational specializations and levels. We will be dealing with students aged 15-18. Students who were not able to enter vocational degree studies; mainly students who have some learning disabilities.

Using these new approaches in studying vocational subjects and learning key skills using the embedded method will lead to a higher chance of motivating the students and advancing them to the appropriate level to be able to continue their studies or find a job.

The main activities are:

  • Designing a new teaching pack for all of the institutes and all of the Courses on 3 levels (Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3) which will result in changing the existing standard teaching techniques to the method of Embedded  Learning on Level 1 and Level 2. On Level 3 the methodology should be different because of the difference in the distribution of key skills and sectorial skills.
This new teaching pack will ensure achieving a sufficient level in key skills in mathematics, English, Maltese, IT, personal development (cultural skills, presentation skills, etc.) and sectorial skills (different vocational modules depending on which specialization the student chooses).
  • Teaching Pack itself will include:
  1. a Syllabus
  2. a Blend of teaching material depending on module and vocational specialization (power point slides, software, gadgets, models etc.),
  3. a Teachers guide and a
  4. Students’ guide
  • Educating MCAST staff to further provide new methods and techniques with the Teaching Pack.
